template_icon.pngJoomla 1.5 Templates can in theory be converted to Joomla 1.0 Templates.

Is it wise?

Some Joomla users still on 1.0 are looking at the new templates for Joomla 1.5 and wishing they could use them.

It is possible to convert a Joomla 1.5 template to Joomla 1.0, but there are some things to consider.

1. Joomla 1.0 is no longer supported.

If a security hole is found in Joomla 1.0 it will not be fixed. (unless you fix it yourself)

2. Joomla 1.5 has template parameters not available in Joomla 1.0.

Some of the newer templates are actually like many templates in one with the options provided by the template parameters.

The parameter selections would need to be determined and hard coded into the Joomla 1.0 template.

This would involve loading the template into a Joomla 1.5 installation first to determine the desired settings.

3. Installer Package

A new Joomla 1.0 compatible installer package would need to be created for the converted template.

4. Is it Wise?

I can't say this is a best practice and question the value of spending time/money on going backwards.

I can understand, however, that some users are quite happy with Joomla 1.0.

My main reason not to do this would be the fact that Joomla 1.0 is no longer supported by joomla.org.
