There's a text string that says "Search ..." above the Search Module that you might want to remove or change.
Front end Language Strings for the Search Component can be edited in
language/en-GB/en-GB.com_search.ini
Another way is to open the Search Module and enter a space for Box Label (and optionally Box Text ) settings.
